Following the success of the School Christmas Fayre, Primary 4 have decided to extend their ‘Guess the Santa’ competition.  Please feel free to have a look through the pictures below and, if you wish to enter, note the member of staff name next to the numbers 1 – 24(in the order that they appear on the slideshow) on a piece of paper.  Hand this into the school office with the £1.00 entry fee before Friday 11th December. The winner will be announced at the Informal Concert at the end of term.

Today we came to school as we pleased and/or wore something on our heads. We all donated a pound and raised a huge £305.79 for children in need.

For Children In Need, P6/7 had the idea of collecting enough pennies to go around our gym hall. We made posters to go around the school to ask all the children to bring in pennies. Philip’s dad took a poster to his work and collected 778 pennies! We measured the width and length of the hall and weighed the pennies. We think we made around 70 pounds. We still have to count.

On Friday 30th October we dressed in pink and collected money for Breast Cancer. Over £400 was raised. Here are some pictures of the fun we had on the day.

Primaries 2A & 2B  will be going to Satrosphere Science Centre on Friday 13^th November as part of their environmental studies. They will be looking at “Day and Night”.

 They will leave school at 9.15 am and travel by coach to Satrosphere and return to school after lunchtime.

 As the children will be out over lunchtime, they should bring a packed lunch with them on the day and if they are entitled to Free School Meals, one will be provided for them (please indicate this on the tear-off slip below).  The children may also bring a small snack with them (no fizzy drinks please).

This trip is being funded by Satrophere and Aberdeen City Council therefore we are not asking for a contribution towards the trip.

 If your child has any specific medical needs of which we should be aware, please note these below.

 We are looking for adult helpers for the trip so if you are available please indicate this on the slip below.

 Insurance position for pupils – Parents should be aware of details contained in the School Information Booklet which states that pupils are not covered by Council insurance for injury, damage to property or personal loss unless negligence can be proved.  If parents wish to take out personal cover for their children at very reasonable cost (which covers them for 24 hours of every day in the year) they can contact the Headteacher who has information available.

At this time of year Loirston School book a theatre company to entertain us with a pantomime.

There will be a performance of “Pinocchio” in the school hall on the morning of Wednesday 25^th November for pupils in Primaries 1 – 7.  To assist with the cost of this production we would ask each pupil to pay £1.  This should be handed to the class teacher by the morning of Friday 20^th November.

This year, our Primary 2’s and 3’s will be performing at the Evening Express Carol Concert.  This is a really important event and takes place in the Music Hall on the evening of Wednesday December 2^nd.

The public are able to attend this event and tickets will be on sale from Aberdeen Box Office.

 The children will be singing songs about their teddy bear and will wear pyjamas and slippers and will carry a teddy bear with them.

 More details of arrangements for transportation etc will follow later but you can note this date in your diary!

Your child will have received a Scholastic Book Club brochure.

If you wish to order from it, please return the order form and payment to school by Friday 18th September.

 If you recently completed a booking form to sign your child up for one of the activities, please be reminded that successful applicants will be informed by telephone prior to the class commencing If you do not receive a phone call confirming then unfortunately you have been unsuccessful, however your child shall be entered on to a waiting list for the activity.  If you do not hear back from them you will not have a place so please do not show up at the session.

Members of Unite, the union, have scheduled a series of strike action that will disrupt First Aberdeen bus services over the next 4 weeks.     

Strikes are planned for the following dates and times: 

Tuesday 8^th September  0700 hours to 0900 hours

Wednesday 9^th September 1600 hours to 1800 hours

Thursday 10^th September 0700 hours to 0900 hours

Thursday 10^th September 1600 hours to 1800 hours 

Tuesday 15^th September 1600 hours to 1800 hours

Thursday 17^th September 1600 hours to 1800 hours 

Tuesday 22^nd September 1600 hours to 1800 hours

Thursday 24^th September 1600 hours to 1800 hours 

Tuesday 29^th September 1600 hours to 1800 hours

Thursday 1^st October  1600 hours to 1800 hours 

Previous strikes suggest that bus services will wind down around 1hour before the strike commences and are not likely to get back to normal until one hour afterwards. 

If your child/children normally travel to and from school using First Bus services, please make alternative arrangements to ensure they get to and from school safely on the days strike action is planned. 

Schools will not close early due to the bus strikes and absences will not be authorised.  If your child/children depend on public transport and you cannot make other transport plans, please contact the school to make arrangements for them to be dismissed from class earlier to allow them to catch a bus home before the strike takes effect, or to inform the school of their late arrival if effected by the strikes scheduled to take place in the morning.   

Pupils will not be dismissed from class early without parents making prior arrangement with the school.  If you normally collect your children from school, you should continue to do so.  

The situation may change at short notice so please check local press/radio or First Aberdeen website for update to date information about the bus strike.  Information will also be available on the Aberdeen City Council website.
