Early Learning & Childcare

Dear Parents & Carers

Early Learning and Childcare Expansion 2016

A series of consultation events has been organised to consider the Scottish Government’s programme of expansion of early learning  and childcare entitlements. All parents and prospective parents are welcome to attend.

The Scottish Government programme is to expand the offer of early learning and childcare hours to 1140 hours for some 2 year olds,    and all 3 and 4 year olds.

In order to continue to deliver high quality early learning and    childcare to meet the needs of working families, reduce the poverty gap, raise attainment and meet the new statutory duties we will    need a fundamental change to the way we deliver or secure our    early learning and childcare services in the city.

This is why we are seeking your opinions on the best way forward. We need to ensure that flexibility for working parents is part of any expansion of early learning and childcare hours. We also need to ensure that the high quality of provision for parents and especially    for children is not affected.

We need to ensure that the socio economic development of Aberdeen is enhanced, that the development of individual children and families sits alongside this and that children and families in Aberdeen play, learn and develop together.
