Present: Tracy Barbour, Fleur Tarling, Ann Proctor, Karen Strachan, Gillian Robertson, Kelly Gordon, Shona Vance, Fiona Taylor, Helen Ford, Emma Kennedy, Sonia Innes, Lyndsay, Shonagh Neave, Tracy Robinson

Halloween Disco

Fleur was in charge of the first disco, and Kelly was in charge of the second one. The P1-P3 Disco was very busy! Parents were allowed to come in to hall to settle their children. The P1 children needed to be monitored as they were going out of the hall and into the Community Lounge. There were 4 parents on the Tuck Shop and 3 on the floor, and it was agreed that we could have had a couple more on the floor for extra supervision of the younger children. The P4-7 Disco went well, but it was observed that some of the boys were spending a lot of time in the toilets. Many of the globe necklaces that were on sale were faulty, and the glo rings were not great, as the glowing tube in the centre of the ring often fell out, and one even burst. The Glo Sticks were popular, and it was suggested we could get attachments to make them into glasses or bunny ears. It was suggested that we could buy tabards for the parent council members to wear at future discos, and at the Christmas Fair, so that they could be easily identified. The Discos took in £240, and there was only one complaint from a parent, who said the music was too loud.

Christmas Cards

The pupils have been told that they must hand in their Christmas cards by Thursday 12th November. P7 pupils will collect them from the classes, and cards and money will be sorted out and sent away by Monday.

Christmas Fair

We made a list of jobs in preparation for the Christmas Fair-The entrance fee for the Fair is £2 for adults and £1 for children and senior citizens, including a tea, coffee or juice; Pupils will help print posters in ICT and Fleur will help distribute these; Fliers will go out to school pupils, and the fair will be advertised in the Cove Chronicle and on the school blog. We will also ask for extra helpers, and donations for the raffle and Homebake stall; It was decided that we need 3 people to sell tickets on the door, and Gillian volunteered to be one of them; Georgina will design signs and posters to be displayed in the school to direct people to various activities; Glitter tattoos have to be ordered, and Jacqueline has said she will see to this; Aberdeen rolls and Christmas cakes for the Tea & Coffee stall need to be ordered a couple of weeks before.

Fleur also made a list of helpers on the day-: Bottle Stall- Shonagh; Decorate a Biscuit- Claire & Rhona; Books & Toys- Mrs Ritchie; Teas & Coffees- Alison & Gail; Christmas Crafts- Sonia; There will be 2 teachers on the Raffle stall and other teachers may also be available to help. Miss McDonald will announce the raffle winners at the end of the morning. There are also a number of private stallholders, including a scarf stall, fancy buttons, and Kelly’s Smelly’s, and it was thought there may be room for a couple more.

The school pupils are also involved, with P1 doing an Art & Craft stall, P3/4 doing an enterprise, P5/6 have various arty games at their stall, P7 are selling calendars, and Mr Constable is creating a Guess the Teacher stall.

Free Christmas Raffle

The raffle is to be held at the end of the Informal Concert at 10.30am on the 18th December. The 1st prize is a Kindle Fire, and there will be three 2nd prizes of £10 Smyths vouchers, with 3 selection boxes for the runners up. Ann and Tracy have said they are able to shop for these. Miss McDonald will phone parents of the winners, to inform them that their child will be coming home with a valuable prize.

Rezoning of Local Primary Schools

There is to be a public meeting regarding rezoning on 25th November at 7-8pm, at Charleston School. Miss McDonald said that, although most of the new houses are to be zoned to Loirston, she has no concerns as the school will not reach capacity, and so far there has not been a huge fluctuation in numbers of new pupils at the school.

Teacher’s Comments

The dates for Christmas parties and discos have been included in the latest school bulletin.

Plans are being made to refurbish the Playdale. Teachers will consult with pupils to see what they would like to be included, and the cost has been estimated at between £15- £20,000.

The school has purchased 6 benches for the playground, and would also like to buy basketball hoops, and Buddy Benches. We will approach the Co-op, and Sainsburys for their help, as they are known to help local groups.

The nursery would like £100 for Christmas presents for their party

The school is supporting Children in Need on Friday 13th November, by having a Come as you Please Day, and donating £1 for the privilege. The P7 children are also holding various stalls in aid of the cause, at a cost of 20p each to take part.

Miss McDonald said that VSE report was very successful, and a suggestion was made that the children’s Learning Journeys could be more consistent.
