Aladdin Production

Posted by loirstonconnect on 18th December 2008

In theNew Year, school has booked a theatre company to entertain us with a pantomime.

There will be a performance of ALADDIN in the school hall on the afternoon of Monday 12th January for pupils in Primaries 1 – 7.

To assist with the cost of this production we would ask each pupil to pay £2.00. This should be handed to the class teacher by the morning of Thursday 8th January 2009. If your family has more than two pupils in Primary 1 – 7, the total cost will be £4.00.

School Christmas Parties Update

Posted by loirstonconnect on 9th December 2008

9th December 2008

Dear Parents/Carers

SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PARTIES

This is an update about the forthcoming Christmas parties at school.

Nursery parties will be on Monday 15th – details have been issued.

Primary 1-2 party will be on Tuesday 16th.

Primary 3-4 party will be on Wednesday 17th.

Primary 5/6/7 disco will be on Thursday 18th.

The primary 1-7 parties will be in the afternoon of the identified day and will commence 15 minutes after the start of afternoon school.  This allows for “changing time” of school lunch pupils who may wish to get into their glad rags for the party.

If a change of clothes is brought, please stress to your child that they should remember to pack school clothes in a bag and to take them home at the end of school.

Pupils going home for lunch on the day of their party should not return to school until 1.15pm or 1.30pm, whichever is appropriate.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Tosh Retires!

Posted by loirstonconnect on 5th December 2008

Today, our school administrator, Mrs Gillian Tosh retired after being at our school for 27 years.  She was usually one of the first into school every day and was always there to take the early morning phone calls from people who were informing the school of an illness, or looking for information about school or getting all the information ready for going out to families. She was an absolute ‘WHIZZ’ at keeping the finances and teachers in order!

The pupil council and children representing Primaries 1 and 2 and the Nursery went to see her today to say thank you for all her hard work for our school and to wish her a very, very happy retirement. Aimee, chairperson of the pupil council presented her with a Christmas wreath and Jay from the Nursery gave her all the money we had collected for her so that she can buy herself something nice.  By the way, Jay’s mum had been a pupil at the school some years before, so Mrs Tosh knew lots and lots of children over the years!

We say a really BIG thank you to Mrs. Tosh and wish her lots of long sleepy mornings when she doesn’t have to get up so early to come to work.

All our love and best wishes for the future from all the boys and girls you have known at Loirston School.

LOIRSTON SCHOOL

DECEMBER NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

No doubt you will all be so busy just now making preparations for Christmas.  It is such an exciting time, particularly for the younger children.  In school you can feel the anticipation building.

HMIe Follow Up Visit

Two members of HMIe will visit Loirston School on Wednesday 10th December 2008.  Following their visit there will be a written report which will be sent to parents.

Switching on the Christmas Tree Lights in Cove

Traditionally pupils who were interested in switching on the Christmas tree lights in Cove filled out a slip and then one name was pulled out.  This year, because of time constraints, we have put the name of every child in the school into a hat and pulled one out.  The child who has been selected is Logan Paterson in P4A.

Christmas Fayre

Thank you to all who contributed in any way to the success of the Christmas Fayre.  It was wonderful to see so many people on such a cold day.  We will let you know the final amount raised once all the expenses are paid.

A special thanks to the I-Time craft group.  They raised an astonishing £55.00.  This money will pay for a small farm and a year’s schooling for a child in an underdeveloped country

Book Fair

There was great interest in the Book Fair.  We made £1587.51 which is just fantastic.  The school get 60% of this total to spend on books.  We have selected a variety of fiction and non-fiction books as well as some dictionaries.

And finally………………….

Sadly, today we say goodbye to Mrs Gillian Tosh, our School Administrator.  She has been a loyal friend to Loirston School.  She started here when the school opened 27 years ago.  I’m sure she is looking forward to a few long lies and not having to face the Cove roundabout.  We wish her a long and happy retirement.  On your behalf I would like to thank her for her loyalty to the school and for always going that extra mile.

Nativity – Photos

Posted by loirstonconnect on 3rd December 2008

NATIVITY

The children are getting very excited about next week and are looking and sounding wonderful.

For both performances of the Nativity you should enter through the Red Unit Door only.  You should hand over your tickets there.  Some P7 children will collect the donations for charity.

At the end of the Nativity please leave by the Blue Unit door.  We will have photographs on display in the corridor of every child in P1 and P2 with their Nativity costume on.  These will be available for you to purchase at a cost of £2.  This money will go to school funds.

I am instructed by the local Authority Legal & Democratic Services Department to advise you that filming and photographing the Nativity will be permitted during the performance.

Any parent who does not want their child/children photographed/filmed are advised to withdraw their child from the event and take them home for the duration of the performance.

Please contact me in writing before the event if you intend to withdraw your child.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Hope you enjoy the Nativity.

Yours sincerely,
