Christmas Nativity

Posted by loirstonconnect on 21st November 2008

Dear Parents of P1 and P2 Pupils,

The children would like to invite you to see their Christmas Nativity, ‘The Bossy King’.  The children have all worked very hard and look forward to performing for you.

We expect demand for seats to be high, so two performances have been scheduled for -

Monday 8th December at 2 p.m.

and

Tuesday 9th December at 9.30 a.m.

Because our school hall has a restricted seating capacity, tickets will be issued to keep a check on numbers.

If you would like the children to help you get in the Christmas spirit, please return the reply slip indicating your preferred day and number of tickets required.  Unfortunately a maximum of three tickets only can be issued per family initially, any spares will be then issued on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Although there is no charge for the tickets, a collection will be taken.

The children are asked to design tickets this year.  Because it is such a busy time it is difficult to hear reading as often as usual so I ask that you bear with us.

Dressing the children prior to each performance is usually a race against time.  If you would like to help your child’s class in this area please let the class teacher know by indicating on the return slip.

I hope you will be able to attend and that you enjoy the performance.

Shoebox Appeal

Posted by loirstonconnect on 20th November 2008

Dear Parents,

Last Christmas, we received overwhelming support from parents, pupils and the Cove community for our Shoebox Appeal.  The delight of the many children who had been victims of war was highlighted in the photographs and video given to school.

Loirston School is again keen to support the charity, Kids Acting for Kids Abroad and Home (KAFKAH).  This year’s shoeboxes will enrich the children of Kosovo whose lives have been disrupted by war.  There are two ways that you can donate to the appeal.  The first is to pack your own shoebox.  The second is to provide donations which will be packed by our pupils or KAFKAH.  The charity advises us that it is helpful if your box is labelled to state whether it is for a boy or a girl and for which age group – baby, 2-4, 5-7, 8-10, 10-12, 12-14 or teen, it would be most suited to.

Could we ask that, where possible, shoeboxes be wrapped at home?  This would help us considerably.

Donations can take the form of pens, pencils, rubbers, rulers, notepads, colouring items, games, CDs, tapes and especially toiletries, jewellery, hair/nail stuff, new clothes, socks, hats, gloves, toys, small cuddly toys, sweets (but no chocolate).  In fact, anything that can fit in a shoebox. Last year KAFKAH were particularly short of pencil sharpeners and toothpaste!

It would also be helpful if a donation of £2.00 be given towards the charity’s transportation costs.

KAFKAH are collecting the boxes on 5th December.  If you are available to assist children pack shoeboxes, please complete the tear-off slip and return by 28th November.

Thank you for your continued support.

Nativity Costumes for P1 Children

Posted by loirstonconnect on 17th November 2008

17th November 2008

Dear Parent,

Nativity Costumes for Primary 1 Children

It’s nearly Christmas time again and the children are busily getting organised to perform their Nativity for you.

We would be very grateful if you could help us in the costume department.  The P1 children are asked to dress as Angels or Shepherds.  Please don’t buy costumes, white tights/trousers and a large white T-shirt plus tinsel for head will be quite adequate for angels. A dressing gown for shepherds and tea towel to cover their heads will be perfect.  Please put the costumes in a clearly labelled bag.

It would be really helpful if your child could bring these items into school by Monday 1st  December and keep their costumes in school to allow for a couple of ‘dress rehearsals’.

Please get in touch if you have any queries and thank you for your help.

Yours sincerely,

Update – 7th November

Posted by loirstonconnect on 7th November 2008

7th November 2008

Information for

Parents/Carers

Vacant Posts

Currently we have two teaching vacancies at Loirston School, one full time equivalent at Primary 4 and 0.6 full time equivalent at Primary 5.  Both posts have been advertised on a fixed term basis until 3rd April 2009.  The closing date for applicants is November 17th 2008.  At present we welcome Mr William Ness to the school.  He is covering the 0.6 f.t.e. post in Primary 5 on a temporary basis.  Mrs Norma Fowler continues to teach P4B.

Crossing Patrol Attendants

We are still trying to recruit relief Crossing Patrol Attendants.  Unfortunately we have been unsuccessful to date.  So, if anyone fancies fulfilling their lifelong ambition to carry the hallowed lollipop wearing a rather fetching uniform, complete with hat and fluorescent vest, please contact us at school.

P7 Science Visits to Kincorth Academy

The pupils in both P7 classes will have an opportunity to participate in a block of science lessons at Kincorth Academy.  They will attend on a Thursday from 1.25 – 2.20 p.m. for a four week block.  The children in P7B have now started their block.  Those in P7A will go at the start of next term.

HMIe

It has been confirmed by HMIe that there will be a return visit on Wednesday 10th December.

High Visibility Vests

We would like to convey our thanks to Mrs Deborah Archibald for securing the funding to purchase high visibility vests for the children.  Now that the nights are getting so dark and taking into consideration the fact that we don’t have crossing patrol attendants, this is the time to issue them to the pupils.
