Dear Parents,
SCHOOL SPORTS
The annual sports will take place on the dates outlined below. The format will be non-competitive, as in previous years, as this ensures that all children, regardless of ability, are fully involved throughout the event and this year it is also a key activity as part of our health week programme. In addition there will be a competitive year group sprint for Primary 4-7 pupils. Heats will be run off and the finals will be on sports day.
NURSERY SPORTS
Information relating to this will be issued separately.
P4 – P7 SPORTS planned for the afternoon of MONDAY 16th JUNE with MONDAY 23rd June being the wet weather alternative. The sports will start at 1.30 p.m.
P1 – P3 SPORTS planned for the morning of MONDAY 16th JUNE with MONDAY 23rd June being an alternative should the weather be inclement. The sports will start at 11 a.m.
Pupils will be allocated a team prior to the day and should come prepared with warm sweatshirt, jogging bottoms worn over shorts and T-shirts. Trainers should be worn. On the reverse of this letter is guidance regarding weather conditions.
Finally, in order to run the sports we require more adults than we have staff. Primary 7 pupils will act as marshals for P1-3 and you can just come and watch! However, HELP IS needed for P4-7 sports. If you would be willing to help at the P4-7 sports, please complete and return the attached slip by Friday 6th June.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
M. S. MCPHEE

Loirston School Newsletter May 2008
Road Safety Matters In the interest of pupil and road user safety it has been proposed that the School Crossing Patroller who operates on Earns Heugh Road near the junction with Loirston Avenue be moved 20 yards away to make full use of the traffic lights on Earns Heugh Road. Before making a decision on this it would be helpful to gather opinion from people who cross there. Please send any comments or suggestions to the School Office by Tuesday 27th May. Parents will be given notice if or when any changes to the present arrangements are to be made. The school has been asked by the Road Safety Sergeant for Grampian Police to advise parents of the following dangerous occurrences. Some parents are failing to ensure that their children are wearing seatbelts and/or sitting on the appropriate car seat for their weight, height and age. He also said that parents at many schools were dropping off children on the yellow zig-zag lines or parking in inconvenient and dangerous places. Thank you for your co-operation and support in ensuring the safety of our pupils and pedestrians.
Parent Council At last month’s open meeting for parents interested in finding out more about setting up a Parent Council a small working group was established to draw up a constitution for it. Further information will be sent to parents as it becomes available.
Electronic Communication We would like to ask you to let us know if you need to continue receiving paper copies of notes and newsletters.
